The book I ended 2017 with was “The Present” by Spencer Johnson. This was the perfect way to get into the New Year.

More often than not, we get distracted by the many activities that happen around us that we forget to enjoy the now. I don’t want to give away what the book is all about, but it gives the secret to happiness, joy, success and life in general.

I am grateful for how my 2017 was, I was more positive in that year than in my previous years, a lot of what I prayed for came to pass. I bought my first camera something I had been dreaming about for the past several years, I got the opportunity to be part of the Amplify squad, I had always wanted to up my story telling skills, I have a whole list of things that I am grateful for.

After looking at that list, I said to myself, “you can do much much more.”  What I want to include in this year is being more present in my situations. I want to fully immerse myself in the things I will be doing no matter the circumstance.

So away with New Year resolutions, away with joining a gym in the beginning of the year, away with quitting alcohol and other bad habits, we do the mentioned things so that we can fit in the society. We don’t need to start going to the gym only to quit after the first month. We need to develop healthy habits that are not part of the norm. Only you know what you truly need.

My challenge to myself and to you is to be more deliberate with your life. Challenge yourself to go the extra mile. What I am learning is that for you to get what you want, you have to continuously push yourself towards that. All those 30 under 30, they got there by pushing themselves and their boundaries and not giving up. So away with procrastination, away with sleep, away with comfort zone, the time is now to get what you yearn for.

Being a creative and a lover for storytelling, I will charge on and take the words of the wise sensei Chidi to heart, “creators create and posers pose.”
