A Million Starlights of Rwanda

When a Million stand to be counted

It’s not only just about the numbers.

The lives lost, were flesh and blood

Real in personality, character and uniqueness

With name identities, they live on.

A wall of Names

When a Million stand to be counted

It’s not only just about a statistic.

The lives lived, were full of light and hope

Certain of tomorrow, they sparkled

With dreams of purpose.

Blinding Brilliance

When a Million stand to be counted

It’s not only just about the fade.

The lives birthed, were full of giggles

Pure Innocence unseen, they were hindered

With the hatred of absolute evil.

A looming storm

When a Million stand to be counted

It’s not only just about the past.

The lives schooled, were students of brilliance

Students of intelligence, they were the present

With solutions for today’s challenges.

Reflected Signpost

When a Million stand to be counted

It’s not only just about a dark era.

The nurture of the mother, was everlasting love

Abominably distorted, halted with deaths

With unspoken abysmal pain, silence crept.

The Letdown

When a Million stand to be counted

It’s not only just about the rivers of blood.

Crowds marched to their deaths, by machete ridden savages

Betrayed by neighbours and close friends

With disbelief, the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi happened.

A Kigali neigbourhood

When a Million stand to be counted

It’s not only just about restorative justice.

The wrongs done must count, a tribute to each family tree

Never forgotten, for Never Again stands as an oath

With Records kept, Renewal continues.

Rebuilding with radiance

When a Million stand to be counted

It’s not only just about Remembrance.

Memories so close, the very oxygen we breath in

Not far away, Warriors stand with swords of fire

With eternal hope, Rebuilding happens.

Fiery Skies

When a Million stand to be counted

Its’ not only just about survival.

The fire in your eyes, ignites through your veins

Every smile glimmers with a spark, to restore broken hearts

With each rising sun, weary hearts are strengthened.

A light that never fades

When a Million stand to be counted

It’s not only just about Agaciro.

When dignity defies denial, strength arises to heal

Rwanda, a light that never fades is a force to reckon

With eternal Starlight, She is 'Urumuri Rutazima'.
